Creating Hyperlinks in Microsoft Outlook Express

This article explains how to insert a hyperlink in Microsoft Outlook Express, but most email applications include this capability.

Select the text you want to link. It is best to select text that indicates where the recipient will go when they click on the link. Then select Insert --> Hyperlink in the Outlook Express menu.

In the Type pulldown menu, select http:
In the URL field, enter the address of the website after http://, then click OK. The text is now a link to the website.

Linking to an Email Address

To link to an email address, select the text you want to link.

Select Insert --> Hyperlink in the Outlook Express menu.

In the Type pulldown menu, select mailto:
In the URL field, enter the email address after mailto:, then click OK. The text is now a link to the email address.

Typing Out Links

There is also another method that can be used in any email client application. Type out the URL or email address as follows:


Email recipients will be able to click on the link and be directed to the website or email address.
