Why Search Listserv
Archives?
- You recall seeing a key piece of information
awhile back but did not save the email
- You are new to the list and want to
see what people have discussed before
on a particular topic (this is a common
courtesy if you are about to ask a question
which may have been answered before)
- You are doing some research on a particular
topic
Go to the ETR
listserv Website
Go to the listserv website
at: http://lists.etr.org/read/ which will take you to the All Forums page.
Some listservs allow you to search the
archives without subscribing to the list,
while others allow access only to subscribers.
For the purposes of this exercise, please
choose an "open" listserv such
nssctalk (Senior Corps). Enter the Listserv Archives
Choose the listserv you
would like to read from the list provided
by clicking the name of the list, such as
NSSCTalk. (Click the show more > button to see the whole list.)
Some listservs will require you to log-in
at this point. (Log-in to your account with
your e-mail (and password if you have one).
Click OK.)
In the upper right corner, you can now
see the forum (or listserv area) that you
are in, and you will be on the Messages tab for that specific listserv. Search With Keyword(s)
To search click on the
Search tab, and enter a term into the search
box and click "Search." For best
results, choose a one or two word term.
Too many search terms makes it unlikely
that you will get any results. Narrow Your
Search
Use the Advanced Search
to narrow your search. You can search on
any or all of your search terms, and search
within the entire message, the body of the
message or the header only. You are also
able to exclude certain words. |
