This document will help you post to a listserv. The information provided is for subscribers of listservs hosted by The Resource Center. For assistance with other listservs, contact their listserv administrator.

Posting

You must be a listserv subscriber to post a message to the listserv. (See the subtopic Subscribing to The Resource Center Listservs via the Web.)

To post a message to the listserv, send an e-mail message to listname@lists.etr.org, where listname is the name of the listserv (such as aclist, nssctalk, or readslist).

For example, to post a message to the Senior Corps listserv, send a message to nssctalk@lists.etr.org.

Replying to a Post

Replying to the entire listserv:
Hit the "reply" button and the message will be sent back to the listserv and received by all subscribers.

Replying to an individual:
Copy and paste the sender's e-mail address into the "To" field of a new e-mail message.

Please reply to the individual when the reply is personal in nature or not intended for the entire listserv.

Attachments

Attachments are not allowed on listserv postings. Attachments can tie up the server and increase the risk of spreading a virus.

E-mail attachments directly to individuals who have expressed interest in receiving your materials.

Prohibited Postings
The following types of postings are prohibited:

  • Messages that are political, partisan or could be considered lobbying
  • Advertisements for fee-based services or products
  • Chain letters
  • Jokes
  • Petitions
  • Resumes
  • Messages from individuals seeking employment
  • Legal advice

Questions

If you have any problems related to a NSRC-related listserv, e-mail the listserv administrator at steves@etr.org.

Please do not post your questions to the entire list.
