How Volunteers Will Use JASON

A senior looking for a volunteer opportunity on the Internet, on the USA Freedom Corps website, on the Corporation for National and Community Service website, or on the Senior Corps website will be directed to JASON.

Volunteers can use either the Fast Match option, where they fill in their service area and their zip code to display opportunities in their area, or volunteers can Register/Log In, where they can create an interest pofile, conduct a customized search of volunteer projects and express interest in volunteer opportunities.

If the volunteer expresses an interest in your program, you will be notified via e-mail.

Notification of Volunteers

Each morning, you will receive an e-mail from JASON notifying you of the number of people who expressed interest in your project the previous day. (If no one has expressed interest, you will not receive an e-mail.)

Viewing the Volunteers Who Have Expressed Interest

Volunteer that have expressed an interest in your program are easily viewable in a compiled list. To view your list of interested volunteers, follow the steps below.

  1. Log into the JASON Administrative Menu page with your user ID and password.

  2. Click on View Expressed Interests in the left-hand navigation bar. This will take you to the Volunteers Who Expressed Interest screen, where you will see the list of interested potential volunteers.

If a volunteer has supplied a name, you will see that displayed. Otherwise they will be identified by their e-mail addresses. You will see the name of your project listed and the date the interest was expressed.

  1. To review, or respond to the potential volunteer, click on Show Volunteer Review, Respond, and Status Update Forms. (This link will say Hide Volunteer Review, Respond, and Status Update Forms is you have already clicked on the Show.... link.)

  1. You will now have a Review link and a Respond link appear, as well as a Status area. (see image below)

To find out more about your potential volunteer, click on the Review link, which will take you to a form that includes the volunteer’s interest profile (if they filled one out) and a list of all the projects/stations in which he is interested. The form also contains any personal information the individual has chosen to share.

To respond to the potential volunteer, click the Respond link next to the person’s name. This will generate a blank e-mail form already addressed to the potential volunteer. Write your message and click Send. JASON will make a note of the date you responded and will display that on the volunteer list.

Also, record the volunteer's "status" in JASON, and click Save Status when you are done.

  1. Once you have selected an applicant, you will proceed with the enrollment process you already have in place for all volunteers.

For more details on how volunteers will use JASON, see the JASON User Guide.

While there is now a recruitment tool targeted specifically at Senior Corps volunteers, it is a good idea to get your program advertised in as many recruitment systems as possible. See the article, Volunteer Recruitment Websites you can learn about the other options available.
