The following issues are questions that many of you have called the
JASON support desk asking about. We have collected those questions
here, so that you can benefit from the questions that many of your
peers have also had.
Q: When I tried to log in at www.joinseniorservice.org, the system said it did not recognize me as a user. Why can't I log in?
A: The Log-In box on the Volunteer Home Page will only work for volunteers who are using JASON to search for opportunities.
For project and CNCS staff, the web address to use is www.joinseniorservice.org/admin.
This will take you the Administrative Log In Page. Here you will find a
Log In Box where you can enter your e-mail address and your Password.
This will take you to the Project Main Menu.
Q: I forgot my password. How can I find out what it was?
A: If you do not know your password, click on Forgot your Password? in the log-in box. Follow the instructions provided, and JASON will e-mail your password to you.
Q: How do I change my Password or e-mail address?
A: After you
have logged in and you arrive at the Project Main Menu, you will see a
link in the blue navigation bar to the left called Change My Settings. Click on this link and follow the directions for changing your e-mail address and/or Password.
Q: I would like my Volunteer Coordinator, or my Sponsor to have access. How can I have them added as a User?
A: You can give
access to JASON to as many people in your organization as you like.
Send an e-mail to the JASON Help Desk listing the name of the person
and their e-mail address. Be sure to include your Project ID number
(listed on the Project Main Menu screen) and the name of your project
to make sure that they are given access to the right account!
Q: The project information listed in JASON is incorrect, how do I get it fixed?
A:
- Log in following the directions above and you will arrive at the Project Main Menu.
- Next to your Project name you will see a link called update.
- Click this link and you will have access to all the data entry screens for your project.
- You
can change any of the project information that you wish, with the
exception of the Sponsor name. If this information is incorrect, please
notify the Help Desk and they will have it updated for you.
Q: How do I add or delete a Station?
A: To add a Station, go into the Project Main Menu and click on the update link next to your project name. Scroll down to the bottom of the data entry screen and click on Add New Station to Database.
This will provide you with a blank data entry screen very similar to
the one you completed for your project. From the Project Main Menu you
may also click on Find Projects on the main page. When the report comes up, click on Add New Station to Database under your project name. Follow the directions as above.
JASON does not allow you to actually delete a station. To make a station inactive, you may click on the view disable status link in the blue navigation bar. Then click the disable button
next to the station you no longer want. The station information will
remain in the database, but will not be active for searching. If you
want to permanently delete a station, you may also simply write over
the information in the data entry screen and save it as a different
station.
Q: I have altered information
on my form, but want to exit JASON and come back to work on it later.
How do I ensure the changes are saved?
A: If you are
updating your information in either the Project or the Station form,
and need to leave the system before you are finished, simply click on
the Save Draft button at the top of the form. This will save any changes you have made without Submitting your information for approval.
Q: I can't submit my project/station information. How do I find the "Submit" button?
A: In order to
submit your project or station information, you must complete all of
the required fields. These fields are indicated with a red asterisk. If
your submit project or submit station button has
disappeared, look through your data entry screen for fields that have
been highlighted in gray. This will indicate that the field is
incomplete. Or, in the case of the text boxes, it will indicate that
you have exceeded the maximum number of characters allowed. Once you
have completed or corrected the entry, click on Save Draft. Your Submit Project button will reappear and you will be able to complete your listing.
Q: Would you please clarify for me the purpose of the 5 key words or phrases?
A: Key words and
phrases are used by JASON to help volunteers find your project when
they search. Enter words or short phrases that a volunteer might use
when searching for an opportunity. For example, "tutoring," "children"
"homeland security," etc. When a volunteer searches on keywords, JASON
will search all of your text entries, so try to think of words that you
have not already used in your short or long descriptions.
Q: I have over 100 different volunteer opportunities. How can I list all of them?
A: When JASON presents your project information in a volunteer's search results, your stations will be listed as highlighted opportunities.
For this reason, you do not have to list all of your stations in JASON!
Instead, select a few that you consider to be high quality, impact
based opportunities, and that have immediate openings for volunteers.
Q: I am concerned that if I
list station information, volunteers will submit their interest to the
station rather than to the project. How can I prevent this?
A: We encourage
you to list high-quality station opportunities in order to increase the
attractiveness of your project to potential volunteers. The system will
not allow a user to express interest directly to the station. Even if
they select a specific station and click on express interest,
the e-mail will still come to you. You will, however, be able to see
that the volunteer is interested in a specific placement.
Q: Can I list a general volunteer opportunity rather than a specific station?
A: Yes, you may
use the Station data entry field to advertise types of volunteer
activities rather than individual placement sites. For example, you may
list an opportunity as "Elementary School Tutoring" and describe the
types of activities that volunteers do through a given school system,
rather than list individual schools. The system was designed to be
flexible. The most important thing is that it meets your recruitment
needs, and the needs of seniors who are looking for ways to volunteer
in their communities! |
