Following are sample descriptions of volunteer opportunities for you
to use as a guide when entering your station and project information.
This should be helpful for completing questions numbered 5 - 7 on the
Project and Station Update section in JASON.
These are intended simply as suggestions for enticing language and
are not meant to be restrictive. Feel free to use your own creativity!
ABC Hospice: Support individuals with a terminal illness
Are you available to offer compassionate and reliable interaction to
someone diagnosed with a terminal illness? As a Senior Companion
volunteer you will become part of ABC Hospice approach to in-home care
which includes a nurses, social workers, chaplain and bereavement
counselors. ABC Hospice is service of the XYZ Interdenominational
Faith-Based Organization. Specialized training is provided prior to
placement.
Activities to support the terminally ill individual can include
reading, reminiscing, sharing a meal, and being a trusted friend who
cares about their well-being. Participate in homeland security by
ensuring that individuals are registered with the Federal Emergency
Management Agency, the American Red Cross and any additional emergency
services available within their community and are equipped with an
emergency kit. Senior Companions bring their own unique blend of love,
caring and experience.
XYZ Case Management Program: Provide respite for family caregivers
The XYZ Case Management Program coordinates an array of in-home
services to individuals who have chosen to stay at home and need
assistance to remain in familiar surroundings. XYZ Case Management
Program is dedicated to providing individuals with choices that
maintain their dignity and respect in the least restrictive and most
appropriate environment that ensures their personal safety.
Activities can include reading, reminiscing, sharing a meal, and
being a trusted friend who cares about their well-being. Participate in
homeland security by identifying individuals in need of home safety
screening, home repair and influenza and/or pneumonia immunizations.
Ensure that individuals are registered with the Federal Emergency
Management Agency, the American Red Cross and any additional emergency
services available within their community and are equipped with an
emergency kit. Senior Companions bring their own unique blend of love,
caring and experience. Many times the help of a Senior Companions means
that family caregivers do not need to quit their jobs in order to take
care of family obligations.
Alzheimer's Association: Visit with a person suffering from memory loss
Do your friends comment on how compassionate and patient you are?
The XYZ Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association provides resources and
services to families and individuals dealing with the effects of
dementia related illness such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's
disease, or strokes. Specialized training is provided prior to
placement.
Activities can include reading, reminiscing, sharing a meal, and
being a trusted friend who cares about their well-being.. Participate

Do you enjoy arts and crafts or card games? The ABC Adult Day Care
Program offers comprehensive services to individuals who are in need of
a structured setting while their family members are at work. ABC Adult
Day Care Program prides itself in offering enrichment activities such
as range of motion exercises, memory enhancement and maintaining motor
skills, in a warm and caring environment.
Activities can include painting, playing various types of tabletop
games, singing, reading, reminiscing, sharing a meal, taking walks and
being a trusted friend. Program participants look forward to visiting
with their peers and the bond that develops.
XYZ Community Living Center: Help adults coping with special challenges
The XYZ Community Living Center is a residential apartment complex
for adults who have transitioned out of a structured group home setting
and are now faced with learning how to live in a independent apartment
with minimal supervision. Specialized training is provided prior to
placement.
Activities can include trips that encourage community inclusion
(i.e. community center for lunch or shopping); leisure activities (i.e.
walks in the park, playing cards or other games); role modeling
appropriate personal care values and manners (i.e. brushing hair,
washing hands, good eating habits); and reinforcing skills taught by
caseworkers on the management of finances.
XYZ Community Mental Health Agency: Raise the spirits of adults with special needs
Are you a retired social worker or nurse? Have your friends told you
that you are compassionate and understanding? The XYZ Community Mental
Health Agency offers resources to individuals that are suffering from
various types of mental illness including mild depression and
schizophrenia. Their Helping Hand Program is a friendly visiting
service for program participants coping with less severe forms of
mental illness who are having difficulty finding the motivation to get
out of bed in the morning. The program operates 5 days a week between
the hours of 9am-3pm.
Activities can include helping the individual succeed in
accomplishing some realistic short term daily goals, reading,
reminiscing, sharing a meal, going for walks, shopping, and being a
trusted friend who cares. Specialized training is provided prior to
placement.
ABC Nursing Home: Brighten the day of a nursing home resident
Are you a good listener? Do you enjoy sharing life stories? ABC
Nursing Home is a private residential facility providing 24-hour care.
ABC Nursing Home offers a spectrum of services including community
resources to enhance the lives of their residents.
Activities can include reading, reminiscing, sharing a meal, and
being a trusted friend who cares. Senior Companions bring their own
unique blend of love, caring and experience. Residents look forward to
visiting with their peers and the bond that develops. |
